Benefits of a First Look on Your Wedding Day
First look’s are something that has become a newer tradition in the wedding industry. But why? Most people dont think about this option since seeing your bride walking down the isle for the first time has been a classic tradition for centuries.
First look’s bring so many opportunities- most importantly being a time away from the craziness (in a positive way) of the amazing wedding day.
This may sound weird- but think about it. Maybe you’ve felt overwhelmed with all the hair and makeup, questions of “what do I do with this? Where do you want me to put that?” and stressing about forgetting something. First look’s offer the opportunity to walk somewhere peaceful, meet your future husband, see his reaction to you and your beautiful dress/hair/makeup, and spend a few quiet moments together to calm your nerves.
How it works when you book with me and include a first look
I love to pick a secluded area (the best I can find) that offers a beautiful background as well. I’ll scout it out, consider your favorite spot’s where you would like it photographed at, and pick the perfect spot. I like to pick a shaded area so the sun wont be harsh on your faces, as well as consider a place where lots of guests wont bombard you for hugs and chats before the ceremony (I totally get it!)
Once picked, I’ll schedule the groom to stand at the spot about 5 minutes before you, faced away from where you’ll be walking to him, and designate a groomsmen to go with him and be his eyes so he doesnt look ahead of time! I’ll then walk with you to the first look spot along with whoever you designate to help carry the dress and bouquet if needed. I’ll take a few shots before he turns around and then let you know when i’m ready and say the magic words “go!” Then i’ll photograph the whole process of you guys taking in the moment, do a few poses afterwards, then let you guys have a moment to yourselves. I’ll walk back to prepare for your ceremony shots! Consider a blindfold for the first look to add that special touch.
Every couple that has done a first look has not regretted it. If your still not feeling the first look idea and still want to do something special, consider a first look with your dad or special family member, or even your bridesmaids! I have also photographed bride and grooms who have written notes to each other to read before the ceremony, and that is also something special to consider.
Simply put, I love the peace and moment away that a first look gives you to help calm your nerves and give you some unique photos for your wedding gallery to look back on forever. It’s so fun and exciting to sneak up on your loved one and have that wow factor for your photos! There are so many different and unique ways to make your wedding day stand out and express your style and you two as a couple. Explore all ideas and find the one that’s perfect for you two!
